I see the Swiss Kiwis have won the Louis Vuitton cup, giving them the right to race against the New Zealand Kiwis for the cup. Assuming Alinghi wins the Auld Mug, where will the next challenge be sailed? Does the deed specify that it has to be sailed on salty water?

The thought of 12 meters on one of the Swiss lakes is quite intriguing.

Not sure what the original deed says but I would be surprised if it was so specific.

They have been so convincing in their wins, albeit good racing I read (not seen any on TV), that the final should be quite close.

Looking forward to it.

Particularly the thought of a katabatic gust off the alp hitting 'em with all the washing up, would'nt want to be the wind watcher up the mast/forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Whats all this defeatist talk? We have a union jack in the corner of our Flag!
Do you relly think the Gnomes of Zurich will win?
There should be some good racing though.
It will be held on the Hauraki Gulf just like this one!

Just in case the Swiss win perhaps we should all start sending letters of support so that when they have to decide "Where" they will remember us and choose the Solent!!!

>>>According to The Times today the America's Cup has to be sailed on "an arm of the sea" thus ruling out Lake Geneva.

If Alinghi's entry for the America's Cup has been accepted as valid under the Deed of Gift then, should they win, the next America's Cup can be held on their home waters. The 1887 Deed states "Any organised yacht club ... having for its annual regatta an ocean water-course on the sea or an arm of the sea, shall always be entitled to the right of sailing a match". The trustees by this stage had already accepted two challenges from Great Lakes (Countess of Dufferin and Atalanta). Access to the sea via a canal or river turns practically any lake into "an arm of the sea".

If Lake Geneva is NOT an arm of the sea then "Alinghi" has no right to challenge for the America's Cup.

Marseille ???

The word a few weeks ago was that they were looking for a profitable contract from a Riviera port and Marseille was likely. Could be quite wrong though.
