Another cracking day on the water for our second day of our RYA Youth Course at Brightlingsea Sailing Club. Black clouds were all around us but we timed coming ashore just right as the heavens opened!
We have a young lad who has never sailed in his life before, he is only 8 but able to tie a bowline, sail in a straight line, tack and do land drills for Gybing. He even capsized today and just loved it! We think in a short time he will be a very good sailor, already wanting to come to our Tuesday Cadet nights, just hope when he wins that Gold medal he remembers the people who took him sailing for the first time. (Sarah Bines).
We have been blessed with perfect weather, light winds, lots of sunshine and not to cold, lets hope the last two days are similar.

Thanks MoodySabre. We have a great Cadet section at Brightlingsea who sail on Tuesday evenings throughout the summer, we have about 80 kids on the water all starting to learn how to sail. This weeks course was only put on after spending last Easter at the beach hut in lovely weather and thinking we should run a course at Easter! Up until a week ago we were going to cancel because the weather had been so aweful, we are so glad we did'nt after seeing the smiles on the kids faces this week. We kit them all out with wetsuits and beg, borrow or steal boots that sort of fit!
Brightlingsea does seem to be lucky with the weather, we saw black clouds and rain all around us but managed to get in most of the days sailing before the heavens opened.

Thats great... I sailed at Bsea Sailing club at about the same age. Thats when the sailing club was next door, where the 3 story town houses now are. No wet soots or boots in them days !!

Our very own Ben Ainslie does his first solo sail, check it out here.Another good day on the water! Check it out: http://vsta.pr/HCYWfB via #Vistaprintwebsites.

We had another great day on the water with the weather once again being kind to us until we got ashore. The little lad we are now calling Ben did his first solo sail today, tacks, gybes were so easy for him, even did a little race at the end of the day and he won that!
We also had fun with a couple of the more able sailors by getting them to sail without a rudder, easy going downwind but more difficult going up wind with little wind!
First mistake of the week was made by me, we got ashore and looked out to sea and saw the turning mark left out, good old Ed who volunteered to go back out and get it.
Last day of the course tomorrow and all the kids have done so well, lots of certificates to give out!
