Heard on the radio that it looks as tho the NEC has lost out to London again.Still at least it will be close to the people who buy cars rather than TWOCking them.

Those of us live in the Midlands are at least able to drive our cars. In London, it's quicker to walk.

Interesting move.

Smaller venue and harder to get to for 80% of the country.

Following my experiences of getting to Excel for the boatshow I definitely won't be bothering with the motorshow. Shame, as I used to enjoy it at the NEC.

Cant understand why, unless it's purely a cost decision.
Excel is far smaller, doesnt have anything like the laid out parking and transport facilities of the NEC, unless you like parking on bomb sites that is.
Tranport wise excel is far harder to get to, NEC has an airport right next door with far more European and World connections than Docklands Airport, on proper aeroplanes, you have the M6/M42 within yards of it, it has its own mainline Rail Station, not a Light Railway on the road to nowhere.....now sensibly, how does Excel compete with that.
Methinks the SMMA and Co must have been offered huge incentives....

Maybe with big companies like BMW, Mercedes etc pulling out the NEC is simply too big?

I wonder whether BMW have sold any less cars as a result of not spending a huge huge amount on the motorshow? Doubt it.

I wonder if any of the big boat builders will ever be that brave and pull out of one show and just exhibit at the other...?

Why do we have two boatshows a year and one motorshow every two years anyway? Lot more car buying public than boat buying public surely?

Why on Earth does everyone insist on sticking everything into the South East? Football, Olympics, Car show. The most crowded part of this island, poor transport links as previously mentioned, overcharging on a grand scale. Manchester put on a very good Commonwealth games, Birmingham should have got the National football stadium for the obvious reason that it is easy to get to for the rest of the country. There must be some HUGE backhanders given out or compromising photos in circulation.

Quick, unconsidered thoughts:-

(1). Another high profile ehibition might improve the grotty carparking and access facilities as well as replacing the tentr at the East End.

(2). Being a motor show and adjacent to water -
Either drive the junk into the dock afterwards, (silly suggestion)
OR encourage the development of aquatic cars (probably yet another sillier suggestion)
