John battled bowel cancer for 5 years but it got the better of him earlier this year. He started the Bray Lake water sports centre, spent years selling boats and lived on a Dutch barge moored at Taplow Mill for a while. For those of you who met and knew JL, you will remember him for being a great sailor, loud, manic, argumentative, bonkers and utterly charming. Another character gone from the waterway.
I can report that his ashes have been scattered in the Camel Estuary, hopefully on an ebb tide. A more fitting place I can't think of. My other half plans to chuck me into Boveney weir pool, probably from one of Chris French's steamers, so romantic!
