John battled bowel cancer for 5 years but it got the better of him earlier this year. He started the Bray Lake water sports centre, spent years selling boats and lived on a Dutch barge moored at Taplow Mill for a while. For those of you who met and knew JL, you will remember him for being a great sailor, loud, manic, argumentative, bonkers and utterly charming. Another character gone from the waterway.

I can report that his ashes have been scattered in the Camel Estuary, hopefully on an ebb tide. A more fitting place I can't think of. My other half plans to chuck me into Boveney weir pool, probably from one of Chris French's steamers, so romantic!

No, it was the blue one with slanty windows. The green one kept moving between the islands each time RBWM took action if I'm thinking of the right boat.
