Not wishing to hijack the other thread about cooking on board but I recorded and have been watching the ITV series with Dick Strawbridge and his Son travelling the South Coast on the Amelie Rose, my perfect combination some great sailing footage and cooking on board.

They have prepared some good meals using local produce all cooked on board in a gas oven and none of it burnt so it must be possible, well worth watching

Don't know how big there boat is but they managed to get a pilot to take them up the Thames. Wusses.

They also have a fan assisted oven and it works. I doubt if there would be much of a program if they tried to cook the same things in our oven.
Would you use a hour and a half's worth of gas cooking baked potatoes?

Amelie Rose's Cooker

Hey - The cooker is a GN Espace Levante - not fan assisted but is a great it of kit.

Re the Pilot - we were required to take one by Port of London Authority - think they were a bit twitchy about cameras :)

My wife and I have enjoyed watching the series, though we had to Virgin+ it. It's been a bit of a god send to my wife on maternity leave!:)

Nice to see a bit of sailing on TV, especially during winter when sailing seems years away. I'm not sure of the authenticity of some of their bike rides, getting the ferry to Warsash and ended up 30 miles north at the top of the New Forest! That has been the only down side, that we can't visit the places they have without a 60 mile bike ride.

But it's a bit of entertainment, even if it is on at a silly time of the day for those with jobs.

Shame it didn't deliver on the "We sailing around the coast of Britain" bit.

Any plans for a book of recipes do you know?

They just cracked on and cooked while the director/camera person shot away... with occasional, "let me get a closeup of that" type interjections.

This was pretty much the way of the whole shoot - we all got on with doing whatever it was we were doing and the camera & crew just worked around us.

There's lots more background stories on Nick's blog >> http://www.topsail-adventures.co.uk/index.php/Features/

We enjoy it too for looking at familiar places since we no longer have a boat in the UK. The Eling tide mill took me back, it was about 1973 or so I think when I last sailed up there and even parked in one of their toast rack berths, they do some serious mud up there. We too wondered about the mileage apparently covered by bikes, but there wouldn't be any Prescott train ride whilst the cameras are rolling and chauffeur Jaguar in between type of thing going on would there, surely not.:)

Yeah - those bikes spent most of their time in the back of the crew van ;-)

Re a book - all the recipes are on the ITVFood website so I don't believe that there are any plans to reproduce them.

Nick has been approached with the idea of writing a book about the trip - to include more in depth stories about the places we went, some of the wonderful people we met, their passion for great local food and how so many of them have turned their backs on "normal" life to get to where they are now. All of this would be threaded together by the story of the trip itself and would include our favourite boat recipes and those of the food producers themselves.

Sound of any interest? It'd be quite a lot of work but we'll do it if folks would find it interesting!

ISTR they did the same thing to Three Men In A Boat 2 making them take a pilot through the Thames barrier

Great series, some good recipes and thanks for coming on here and answering questions.

I can cook, ride a bike and set fenders so if you need a hand with the next series don't be embarrassed to ask......:)

Come on... we have all cooked on boats and to have everything come out perfectly.. be honest.. was there things that tasted horrible.

I heard you saying it was your ambition to sail under the Tower bridge. Did you manage to push the pilot off and grab your tiller back.

I know when we sailed to St Catherine s you have to push on to make it in one tide.

Would like to see more sailing next series and can you tell us a little more about the boat?

Thanks for answering the questions.

I tried to watch as many as I could, but times were against me. Still playing catch up. I really enjoyed it, especially the sailing. It was quite light hearted, and easy to spot the cheats.

The Amelie Rose guys have been great all the way through. We've had a lot of fun and dialogue with them and the presenters via Twitter. I hope they get to do some more.

Saw them filming at Dittisham in June last year. Ferry boat inn was doing brisk ale business from Dick and crew. Agree, has been an excellent series and I hope they make more. Scotland would be great.
