"The History of Arthur Beale" Zoom talk

Well done Alistair Flint for keeping Beales going!
Alistair owns Flints theatrical suppliers and has a lovely wooden folk boat and the word was he bought Beales to keep them alive. Well done!!

I started as a chippy in theatre going on 4 decades ago so have been in and out of Beales hundreds of times, always a pleasure

Not many left but still a few of these old types of shops around the west end. Shame most of the tool shops are gone, was like going into a 2 Ronnie's sketch back in 1985 :)

I didn't know of the Flints connection until you told us.

I haven't been there for years but Flints warehouse near the Elephant & Castle used to be a wonderful place to visit.

Met Alistair Flint at one of those Beale Park events ... great guy, spent ages chatting about Folkboats and Vertues ... demonstrated some gadget which I can't even remember now what it was but I bought it! Might have been a Bahco scraper!

If it was one of these they're well worth buying Screenshot_20201124_121159_org.mozilla.firefox.jpg

I bought an Arthur Beale “ Beerenburg” pullover online three weeks ago as a present for my son. It’s absolutely excellent and tbh I think it’s a bit of a bargain, given the quality.

So I went back to buy another, yesterday and found them having a “flash sale” with 20% off everything, this week only.

Fill yer boots!

Now look what you've started!

I have just bought an Erebus pullover. Supposed to be the same as the Beerenburg but with a plain collar.

Also a tin of Epifanes Rapidcoat varnish,

I hope this firm is able to survive the downturn in trade due to Covid.

Hear hear! I have not met Alastair Flint though I have seen his very shiny Cheoy Lee Vertue - a floating advertisement for Epifanes - a few times, two daughters of old sailing friends worked in the shop for a while and he has been known to loan his rifle to people cruising in Spitsbergen, which I think is jolly decent of him. So I make a point of buying from Arthur Beale whenever I want something that they stock. And whenever I just fancy something that they have in stock.

Thanks for the link to the talk, which I enjoyed.
