The henderson pump on my Lavac was getting stiff after 3 yrs

I take mine apart and give it a thorough clean every winter. The joker valve does get a coating of calcium (or something) and gets stiff. A coating of silicon grease when it all goes back together keeps it smooth. If you can keep it clear with brick cleaner that sounds much quicker/easier.

Did you fill the pump with brick cleaner or just pump it through.

added some fresh water to toe bowl added the 1/2 ltr or so of hydrocloric acid pumped 4 or 5 strokes. i did close the outlet seacock but it did build up some pressure, best not close it i reckon.
our basin drains into the bowl via a diverter valve so we cet plenty of fresh soapy water through the pump

I used to do the same with white vinegar but was not very effective so will try which pool acid which is also hydrochloric acid.

Thks for the tip
