I have received an email from Julian Morris regarding an official statement on Calor LPG refuelling stations in the UK - curiously, I thought he would have posted his own findings here?? I have searched back a few pages, but found nothing.

Anyway, on behalf of Julian's good efforts in talking to Calor, I can inform all that Calor will retreat from supplying marine gas (LPG) from all (there used to be 27) but a handful of UK marinas. All but one of them is on the south coast. The one in the North is, very luckily, the place where I fill up at Pwllheli, North Wales!! It seems that for now, I have escaped my boat becoming worthless.

My cruising range is now restricted to North Wales and Southern Ireland - and I'm not too concerned with that per se, but my boat only has value to someone who does their boating where I do - and that is after the £5k investment in its conversion, which fortunately I didn't pay for, as I bought it converted.

Maybe there is one ray of sunshine - with fewer people using marine gas, there will be no governmental scrutiny and debate on its taxation.... (maybe!)

Boatworks + in Guernsey have confirmed tosday that they will still continue to supply Gas to customers but obvioulsy you will have to come to Guernsey to get it. With Petrol @45p and Gas as cheap as it is in the uk or cheaper (awaiting price) its prob worth the trip for a long weekend.

This is the list that I have received from Calor of the refuellers that are remaining.

Interestingly, St Peter Port is not on the list. Is Pwllheli the same as Yacht Haven Management Gwynedd?

Warsash Marine Ltd, Hampshire
Torquay Fuel Ltd, Torquay
Marina Developments, Poole, Dorset
Yacht Haven Management, Gwynedd
Essex Marina, Essex
Ship ‘n’ Shore Ltd, Hayling Island, Hampshire
Tichmarsh Marina, Essex
Lymington Marina, Hampshire

I think SPP is supplied by Guernsey Gas and not Calor so that might explain it.

Hi Neale,

Yes YHM is the same as Pwllheli Marina - thankfully and my list is the same as yours. I have asked Julian to ask Calor about leaving the refuellin apparatus in-situ for another supplier - if thats possible. However, it looks like they are taking kit out already.

Do you know of the longer term plans?

I was at Pwllheli this weekend gone to fill up (242L) and when I asked if they had been consulted, or had anyone had discussions with them, they said no???
