The fright of my life.

Sailing (motoring) back to port today, flat calm and not another boat within miles; my 5 year old daughter sitting on the bridge deck and harnessed. I decide to pack a few things in the forward cabin to gain time. Two minutes later I pop back out - to see the harness line unattached...!! She is not below decks - I race out to the cockpit and she's not on deck either...

She had climbed into a cupboard in my cabin having unclipped the line!!

Did I feel sick?

Bizarre. I lost the youngest boy yesterday - at least I knew he wasnt overboard. Hel also turned up inside a hanging locker in his brothers cabin. I initially suspected fould play, but it transpired that he had gone in to 'see what it looked like in the dark'. Unsurprisingly there was no catch on the inside to let him out.

We eventually found him, and he emerged chastened, dripping and somewhat contrite.

I always had mine in the Crewsaver kids life jackets, and they had the harness clip on the back to stop just such an event
