I have to admit that over the last 6 or 9 months the forum has been both more exciting but also much worst. IT IS THE BEGINING OF THE END.

Can we have a restart and begin again :

Today is now 1st February 2002 and we are all friends and NOBODY is the enemy.......

Those that have caused the problems will also become "model" forum users, AND CHANGE THEIR WAYS and the only people we the forum will have a go at will be newcomers who after 24 hours will be greated as friends...and then treated as regular members with all the rights the old hands have.....
.

How about it.....

who wants to have a restart...and stop this rubbish.

Put you name to this thread and if you mean it stay true to the belief that we value this forum and will not let the few drag it down.

THE START:

Tripleace:
"Hopefully over the last 12 months I have offend nobody... If I have I'm sorry..."

who else wants to start again and rebuild this forum.......

Starting again would be fun, all that banter with Matt over Soltron and posting stuff three or four times a day at least with all the regulars coming in for a chuckle when we have flamed someone as it was alot more light hearted back then,..

May be its because someone on here uses up all the questions before any one else can type them up so there is nothing to say of any worth. That would not normally be a problem but cos it is done in such a provocative way it entices the wrong reply and so therefore puts other people off posting.

Alot of us do our socialising in Tonys lounge now.

A restart no a rethink maybe.

Can anyone play in Tonys lounge. I've admired the way Kim has handled things in the past but unfortunately I think his attempts to be even handed are slightly misplaced this time. This forum is losing its identity, if this carries on it will be H1 talking to himself.

I have learnt so much in the past twelve months on here from experienced hands, who are now infrequent posters, but the boorish behaviour of one person in particular is really spoiling it for me.

I think I'll do my drinking in the pub next door in future, will look in occasionally and come in if it is quiet

Can you let me know how to find Tony's lounge

Go to http://www.boatsontheweb.com and then click on boaters lounge. Registration is as easier than this forum.

The beauty of this forum is that anyone is free to ignore or to comment on any post as they feel fit.People have the right to post on any boaty subject that appeals.Just as others have the right to disagree with that posters point of view.
No one is forced to reply to any post if they regard the subject of the post as being below their own very high personal standards.
The forum will carry on regardless under its own momentum? despite efforts to turn it this way or that.No new start is needed.IMHO.
Ps.Was that Aircraft posting on shufflebum grumpy or what and exactly what was the result of all that bad tempered bitching../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Re: Just a thought

Why not have an "Anything goes" forum. Sort of general chit chat banter type thing. Put a warning up 'Does exactly what it says on the tin' type thing. Lat it run without and moderation and see how it goes. Keep it for registered users and if it gets out of hand, can it. Let it run for a couple of weeks to see how things pan out.

Aircraft Carriers

Niot grumpy just pointing out that the authorised cost of £5Bn doubled in a matter of monthsm, and that was'nt the total project cost just the capital cost of the craft, but do'nt want to thread drift on this partic post.

I'm not complaining about posting standards just that at certain times a general discussion cannot take place because of the extent and nature of postings from one particular person

Mmm.It all goes OK on the forums until somebody feels affronted then whoosh it is handbags at dawn.
We all have strong opinions on some stuff, but would personally prefer that things did not get v. personal.Having just typed this I have just remembered being told off for doing exactly that.

Re: Just a thought

I cant see the problem with it. If someone feels affronted then the handbags will be drawn swung the put back down to dance around. The reason that threads get pulled is that things aren't allowed to run their natural course. Someone steps in and halts the proceedings and people get irate becuase they're not allowed to vent and rant.
You see thats the problem. If the populace were allowed to say exactly what they mean then the prolific posters of poo would get the message pronto and tone things down sharp'ish. Seen it happen loads of times. All this being carried out behind closed doors wouldn't harm the squeaky public e-image of the forums.

But we are all free to ignore something that we do not agree with.A poster who wishes to express a point of view valid to his experience should not be vilified because of his obvious enthusiasm for his hobby.
I would have liked to join in on the A/C debate but would have contributed more heat than light I suspect./forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Re:I propose..Section 0

just like the old Compuserve forums used to do.

Put in sin bin with offending posts, and all concerned members (usually two, no more than three) can thrash it out in private with no interuption...often they were so busy with their 'discussion' they didn't even realise it had been moved offline..but the forum format was somewat different

Ok but its difficult to participate in a forum when you've got to ignore 50% of it!

Heat's often better than light, you feel comfortable even if you do'nt know whats going on/forums/images/icons/smile.gif/forums/images/icons/smile.gif/forums/images/icons/smile.gif/forums/images/icons/smile.gif/forums/images/icons/smile.gif/forums/images/icons/smile.gif/forums/images/icons/smile.gif oops

Re: Aircraft Carriers

Your last paragraph doesn't tell the complete story. Things are made much worse by the snide comments of a few "old hands" who should know better. Ooh it's gone 11pm must go and put the cocoa on !!

Re:I propose..Section 0

Well sort of, but if you call it the sin bin certain elements will go all out to get 'binned'. Just keep it a registered users only forum for lively debate where views can be aired unmolested. I think it would add an element to the forums where users would get all that 'stuff' of their chests without offending others. But its got to be anything goes, with a warning, and left to its own devices. Ok I can see that out and out personal attacks are out of order and should not be encouraged. I say trial it for a set period then ballot the users to see if they feel its of benifit. If its wanted keep it, if not get rid of it. It should clear the main boards of the stuff that doesn't comply with the image that YBW want to project.

You can always do as I do. View the list in expanded format. If there is more than one post on a particular thread from a person who shall remain nameless that I find tedious and irritating, I just give the whole thread a miss as I know I'll be wasting my online time otherwise.

Bill.

Snide comments

I think that;s unfair. H1 got a lot of good advice and still gets it. People try to reason with him in a non confrontational manner but he stonewalls and tells everyone what they should be doing. Take Byron for example, he gave H1 advice on antifouling. H1 ignores it and tells everyone Byron's full of crap and knows nothing about boats .. just one example.
