Yes, except he could not get any of his barrister friends to accompany him so he had to engage a paid-hand, Jack Wright, who normally worked on barges and deep-sea ships.

I think both slept in the main cabin because on one occasion Knight writes that he was tipped out of his bunk when the boat was leaking badly and aground while Wright was lying in a pool of water in his bunk on the opposite side.

But generally the social distinctions seemed to have been maintained when possible because it was usually Knight who went ashore alone exploring, socialising and dealing with officialdom; leaving Wright to mind the boat and, presumably, to do the cooking and cleaning. Also Wright addressed Knight as "Sir" whilst Knight addressed him as "Wright".

By the way, having Navionics app on my tablet is useful as I can follow their voyage in detail. It's interesting, and a bit sad, to see that the then quiet little anchorages and villages are now yachting centres with marinas.
