A young friend of mine had real prospects of becoming Commodore of one of the UK's Premier Yachting Clubs
Published logs, a good pedigree of racing with just the correct amount of modesty in terms of not winning and photos all suggest that his connections were sound and that the road to Flag Officer, rear, Vice and then the ultimate office was his to stride manfully down.

Can anyone confirm that by refusing to attend a soiree hosted by the current Commode, this road will now not be travelled by this once promising young friend?

Refusing to attend? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif That is shocking bad and rude behaviour! How can anyone expect to aspire to high office after giving such grievous offence? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Damn fine show.

Obviously your young friend has no desire to ossify into a stilted, hide-bound, gin soaked, be-reefered pillar of yotosity, but wishes to remain a creative free-spirit, able to roam the world's oceans at the drop of a winch handle..

I applaud him, or her.

Glad to see you at your eloquent expressive best...however I do feel there will be some harrumphing taking place as we converse within the oak panelled portals and cigar-smoked enclaves where the blazered ones dwell.
My young friend did express to me a desire to become one of them, once in beery moment in a secluded anchorage....

Yup .. as the commode in question I can cofirm your young bumchum has been blackballed by Para .... aaargggh

perhaps 'tis not what he did but the method by which he did it.
was failure to attend blamed upon a lack of sheckels or a genuine alternative use of time?
there usually two sides to every story............
the road may not be blocked if both sides make the effort to communicate

I would have thought that someone with your graciousness and in a exalted position within Fleetwood YC would recognise the young man's potential and have a quiet word with said Commode.

Sometimes we all need a hand when mistakes are made. I would say that you allow the Claymore generosity to shine through.

OK - leave it with me
But when you make it - I do expect to win several trophies, whether or not I have entered for them.
I've always fancied the BlueWater jobbie myself and see no reason why a passage from Kilmelford to Croabh would not qualify - under kind conditions
