Sincere apologies for double posting or whatever you call it
I never read anchor threads so I hadn't clocked that it had already been done.
Thanks to Blowing old Boots for pointing out the error of my ways

You are free to choose to read any thread, if you find some uncomfortable, difficult to understand, boring - etc etc - I understand but for the life of me cannot understand why you might complain when its your option to read them in the first place.

I hope you are not so bored you have to read threads you don't like. And then make time to complain about them.

A partial solution might be to initiate threads on topics you do find fascinating and then you could read them with a smug and relaxed glow.

or, even simpler - as it requires less effort for you

Simply ignore threads with the offending words in the title.

Just trying to make you lives less traumatic.

As far as I can ascertain most anchor threads are initiated by members who have some sort of problem or are trying to impart some knowledge or news. I'm not entirely sure why you find this objectionable.

I think I remember saying this to you once before, but just in case you were too bored to read it, the problem, I find, with anchor threads in particular, is that it really has all been said. Many Many times. I don't have the brain, intellect or technical ability to do an analysis of number of posts by subject but I am fairly sure that Anchoring and all matters related will come out a clear winner.
I think I remember writing this to you and to make what I really feel is a very helpful suggestion - if people searched for threads on Anchoring, rather than just asking questions which have been repeated several times - it might mean that we have a richer forum in terms of content.
I really cannot be arsed taking this further so that it becomes a debate - "too late", I hear you cry -
Perhaps - being a person from the dark side of the world (joke) your attitude is different but up here in the frozen pissing wet wastelands of the sub-arctic belt, a few decent threads about subjects that really matter like the supply of Fray Bentos Pies in a time of Covid, How to pay less for decent waterproofs that are actually waterproof, Why can you not by 1/2 sizes in shoes that might fit the northern hemisphere foot, Why do Australian Rugby Union Players have to be so good, Do the Umpires in Aussie Rules football feel as big a tit as they look with their daft little tilbys and that gunslinger double armed gesture they make when one of their rather effeminate looking sleeveless numbers scores a touchdown - I could go on but I fear I am in danger of boring you.
Anyway - if you'd read the thing properly, you would have seen that I mistakenly repeated a thread - slightly reworded, all because I hadn't read the Zoidburger's post in the first place - which ought to prove to you that I don't normally read anything to do with Anchoring. I apologised, I will attend Mass on Sunday and make a full confession to what Father Sikkola will probably class as an original sin and hopefully I might still get to Heaven.
The other reason I didn't read the original post was because the Zoidburger talks and writes shyte. I am proud to call him my friend and if you ask him - he will also say that I similarly, talk and write shyte. I think I have the edge when it comes to singing.
Going back to Father Sikkola for a moment - they were thinking of him for Pope but on reflection, The Cardinals felt 'Pope Sikkola' probably didn't sent out the right message.
Where does that leave us?

Claymore,

There was no suggestion you did wrong - like everyone you don't read threads but unlike most you admit to it.

However there seem to be some self appointed censors about what should or should not appear. If you think there are a lot of threads on anchors - the 2 current ones are 'unique' but threads on exhaust elbow appear with fascinating regularity - but they appear quite acceptable = the thread censors don't seem to mind them.

We have 2 current anchor threads. One is a recent summary by a man with a highly respected reputation on the best anchor, you may of may not respect his judgement - but he has updated his views. I fail to see why that thread has invoked such criticism. The second thread current is on a specific anchor chain with what seem to be peculiar dimensions. I fail to see how any historic thread would alter his dilemma.

The censors seem to find these 2 threads to be the straw that broke the camels back

To them I would say - get a life.

Allow those of us who are interested in specific topics to explore nuances and maybe the critics can go off and tear wings off butterflies or kick their dogs in frustration.

That everything has been said - I don't think so. I think we know less about anchors and anchoring than virtually any other topic and this is likely to remain so if the censors have their way. What is interesting that after decades of worshipping at the altar of catenary - we are only now having a debate. After 2 decades of worshipping at the alternative altars of concave and roll bars - we are now having a debate. But we still have people buying crappy shackles from pet shops, surely they are not sold for any other application and you can still see swivels of indeterminate origin attached incorrectly. If one boring, long and repetitive thread educated one person to removing an accident waiting to happen - I for one - would be pleased. If the censors had their way - the repetition would be lost - and in case you have not taken any lessons from advertisers - repetition works.

To show how silly people are - the answer to rubbish foul weather gear and the repetitive threads on re-soling deck boots- is very, very easy. Move here and you really do not need it! Not entirely true - we are dusting off our Uggs, used as deck boots, currently - preparatory to the chill of our winter

On antipodean sports and fashion - I'm with you and smile at much of it. Its nice to be part of a small nation with such idiosyncrasies over which people laugh - and simultaneously wipe the floor with our collection of international trophies. Its not what you wear that matters - maybe it was simply developed as a destraction.

Take care, stay safe - and relax

Jonathan

Don’t! It is a healthy mind that does not know the status of anchor threads. It means you are still in charge of your faculties.

Should someone start a "Picture of My Anchor" thread? That would be interesting.
