is when, as you stow up on Sunday evening, every single family member says:

"Do we have to go home? Can't we just stay on the boat and carry on?"

It has taken a long time for me to realise that - but I achieved it yesterday!

Lucky s...d !!!

Most times it's .... that was good, but I'm looking forward to ....

Makes you feel good !!

Couldnt agree more. We've only just really started sailing as a family this season and my eureka moment cam when my kids (9 & 6) said they didnt mind missing Dr Who every Saturday!!

Now they've started asking on a Monday if we will be going sailing next weekend - magic.

Good for you!

We have a 10 year old and a three year old.

I should pass on a word of warning about three year olds - the urge to fiddle with switches is such that you may find your masthead light on all day!

Ahh, well we have an 8 year old who can row, drive the outboard in a straight line and make a stab at helming....she says her favourite moment is when the engine goes off and the wind takes over.

The 6 year old on the other hand can't wait to get a speed boat, is a menance with the tool box....and still finds switches irresistible.

Re: Kids nasty habits...

Unfortunately the new covert activity of our youngest is to identify areas of proud caulking in the cockpit and / or foredeck and dig them out when I'm looking the other way!

Just this weekend I spent the best part of Sunday afternoon armed with a mind bogglingly expensive tube of Sikaflex and several rolls of masking tape repairing her latest exploits. Joy!

Mine was last year when my 12 year old son passed his rya level 1 and 2, and decided that the boat wasn't too big to sail after all, before he passed, he would only helm when motoring, since last year, he is always wanting to helm the boat when sailing in moderate winds, and me and swmbo can crew at last, and let the younger of the team tell us what to do, and to see him enjoying and taking it all in...

pure bliss......
