Kioni is ours no longer :(

Delivered her with her new owner to her new mooring on Salcott Creek West Mersea this morning. Think the old girl was a bit sulky, the electric bilge pump stopped working and the radio was temperamental (both worked fine last time we were on board) and it rained and the wind blew from where it shouldn't have.

But she has a good owner and she is going to be well looked after methinks - looks like he'll finish all those little jobs I didn't manage to.

So no boat to use at the moment - what are we going to do?
 
I hear that knitting is quite theraputic.

Seeing my last (and first) boat disappearing down the road on a trailer was a sad moment - more than compensated by a new lady in my life :)

What's the plan for getting your boat back from the US?

I was told the two happiest days in the life of a boat owner are the day he/she buys a boat and the day he/she sells it. I can say the latter is not true :(

Plan B is rolling along but I am awaiting some feedback from the US yard about getting her ready to ship over. I've got a provisional shipping date and have almost sorted out all the trucking at either end. I am still talking to HMRC. If I can tie the loose ends up and get all the ducks lined up ready to be shot she might land here in the UK on Jun 4th. Then we have to put her all back together again. It's going to cost a lot of money :(

However, the kids are applying *a lot* of pressure to get her ready for the Pirate Weekend... and what father can resist the wishes of his children? :rolleyes:

On that point, one of our sisterships was imported into the EU and as part of the RCD check had to change the Izuzu engine (which had been fitted since new). He changed it for an identical one sourced from a local boat, which apparently meant it was OK. Weird, no? :confused:

Anyways.. in the interm you can always come out with me!

SWMBO is putting pressure on too, she's very keen to get out on a bigger boat with an easy motion, proper beds and her beloved fully equipped galley :rolleyes:

Saguday is CE Cat A so in principle no, although I think I will have to have a post-construction inspection or something to certify any after-delivery changes. Since she was less than a year old when we bought her the only additions have been a Raymarine radar and chartplotter and the solar panels so I'm hoping this will be relatively straightforward. We're having the shore power inlets and gas regulators changed to UK but leaving the rest as is at least for the time being.

There was a change in EU engine emission/noise regulations in 2005 I think but IP have told me the Yanmar engine on Saguday was already updated to meet these so we should be fine.

Looks that way, the family are keen to keep the connections there since we got Kioni back in the water again last year and rediscovered our old friends and cruising grounds... and it's about 2k a year cheaper than Plymouth for a marina berth...

Anyways.. in the interm you can always come out with me!

Well that 2k will quickly get eaten up with the extra mileage!! And sitting stuck on the M4!!!


Ive been down 3 times so far... but probably not now until mid May.....

I'll drop you a note next time.... Abi is not able to come dowm now... probably not for the summer...:(:(

We tend to be going against the traffic - not been a problem so far. It's 3.5-4 hours vs 2-infinity going down the M5 in the summer....

Ive been down 3 times so far... but probably not now until mid May.....

I'll drop you a note next time.... Abi is not able to come dowm now... probably not for the summer...:(:(
