Last Friday was a sad day for the old motor boat 'Ambition' which after partially sinking at her berth in Saint Gilles (on the canal Rhone-Sete) was finally craned out and taken away for breaking up.
For those who have cruised the French Canals, Ambition was the boat used by the photographer - I believe Jean Morlot - who included her in the numerous photographs he took in the French canal system and included in 'Guides Chagnon, Carto-guide fluvial, the green guide books that so many have used.
Ambition was also reputed to have been present at the Normandy landings as one of the 'Little Ships' but I have been unable to find any conformation that this is actually true.

"Little Ships" - Normandy???
Suggest you check a history book - or was "Normandy" a slip of the finger.

4 years and 177 nm apart.

ooops!! Thank you Charles. You are obviously so correct.
Been reading of landings, so got it mixed up. Obviously more than a slip of one finger.
My apologies.
