After a nervous few days following the dealers trial of my boat, where it was discovered that the drive couplings needed replacing (apparantly not uncommon on Yamaha installations over 1000 hours), which resulted in a renegotiation of the p/ex price (fair IMO), we are on our way.
The Gobbi was surveyed on Monday, and I was in attendance for the duration, got the surveyors report yesterday which confirmed that structurally she is sound, and most defects were either minor or cosmetic.
Got a call from the dealer last night confirming that all defects bar 3 would be sorted. The 3 were, some gelcoat repairs, slight damage to a piece of stainless fendering, and replacing the teak on the bathing platform.
The reason for not doing these was that it would result in a 6 to 8 week delay in me getting the boat, and I suppose he wants his money as much as I want my boat, so it is left for me to arrange when she is next out. Of course a not insignificant reduction in the sale price was offered to offset this, which I consider to be most reasonable.
The generator, drives, and engines are to be fully serviced to manufacturers recommendations (including valve clearances, thanks for the tip), prior to delivery.
The next step is that we have been invited back to inspect all the work, which I hope will be this weekend, and then finalise an agreed delivery date, which I hope will be the following weekend, subject to my bank having the money in the right place at the right time.
This will be the first time I have bought a boat in this way (I have always sold and bought through a broker), and without wanting to tempt fate it has been a good experience so far.
Please don't ask who I'm dealing with, although I suspect some will guess, as I will reveal all once the boat is tied to my mooring.
I will keep you posted.
