At LIBS I bought a cruising chute from Crusader Sails. It was a a great price and a very easy transaction, they have the measurements of even some quite rare boats like mine in a database, and it was delivered within 7 days of the agreed time.

When it arrived I liked the look of it. Neatly stiched and with labeled corners, it also included a snuffer that I didn't know I was getting.

I've used it on three occasions in winds ranging from 6-12 knots and it's nice. It sets very well. It powers up the boat, lets me sail with the wind well forward of the beam, and the snuffer makes the up and down bit's dead easy. I wasn't a fan of snuffers for spi's but now I've used this one I can see the point. I'd think that in six knots of wind this sail is worth about a knot and a half ( say up from 3- 4.5 knots) on a reach which is worth having.

I like it.

While not a Crusader chute - my new chute has filled in a point of sail where Aeolus was performing poorly (wind about 30deg fore and aft of the beam). It is a good addition to the sail wardrobe - perhaps now I'll save up for a new spinnaker as well - or should that be a new head sail?

Cheers Les - I know, I've seen it, but I can't actually afford one right now...! Darn and drat. Hope yours finds a good home sharpish.
