Re: The \'Classic\' question?

It has indeed.

And the real discussion is not about: which is a classic boat, but rather: who can we exclude from our bunch....

Re: The \'Classic\' question?

Absolutely.
Not only does it help to keep the HM happy (he's the tiny man wearing the original),
it also keeps gulls off our masthead (as we fly the HM's moustache as a burgee)

cheers

Re: The \'Classic\' question?

A Classic is simply an old design that still looks good, turns heads and makes grown men spend stupid amounts of money on them despite their age or condition. Take a look at your boat and if you feel a warm glow of pride inside then its a classic.
The whole question is a matter of personal opinion.

Agree. If you think your boat is a classic, then it is, no matter what others may say.

Re: : The \'Classic\' moustache .

Of course I know.

However, there is a threat.... Since many years, they have been planning to link up the motorway A4 to the motorway Bergen-op-Zoom to Antwerp. For some time, it was taken for granted that they would build it east of Steenbergen. Ten a strong local lobby has come to put it west of Steenbergen. Landlubbers, of course, that live near the eastern edge of Steenbergen.

Now, the Eerste Kamer, our version of the House of Lords, has ordered a new investigation. If the western version is chosen, this will mean a fixed bridge in the Steenbergse Vliet of at most some 9.20 metres (like all bridges in the main waterways), probably even lower. Whatever, even 9,20 m would be much too low. At best, we might get an opening bridge. But being in a motorway it will probably not open much.

f course, we started a counter-lobby to save the harbour, but it is clear that authorities do not like boats or at best haven't got a clue about them.

Perhaps E-mail bombing the local authorities from your side may help waking them up. I shall try and find out their E-mail adress and let you know. If you're willing to help, that is..

cheers

Re: Twaddle

Sorry Mirelles' skipper, but what does that mean? Only have a degree in engineering and everybody knows our English is awful!

She

Thank you. I was launched on the 8th of August, 1937, I am built of teak, gaff rigged, with a counter stern and I do not like to be reminded of my age by being called a "classic", thank you! I am a nice family cruising boat and just now I am brining up my third family!
