A sickly dog and a boat that has, very occasionally, given the odd niggling problem in the past (stop snickering!) meant we were unable to join the club cruise for the bank holiday weekend. So, decided to keep it boaty, but closer to home.
We're very lucky where we're currently based, being about an Hour and a half from the mouth of the river and the non-tidal stretch depending on which direction we head out.
Also had the pleasure of meeting a forumite at Allington, Medway Mudlark. Lovely to meet you David :)

Saturday evening saw us heading upstream towards the non-tidal stretch:

Once upstream, came across the obstruction at Tovil (sunken tree)

Overnight stop at East Farleigh, very peaceful and a lovely, misty start :)

The river was absolutely dead on Sunday. I was a little apprehensive about venturing upstream on a bank holiday but I think we passed about 4 boats! Very refreshing to be able to tick along at 3 Knots, enjoying the birdsong

SWMBO wanted to take these home...

Evidence of the flooding very evident along the river:

Then, time for a change. Back down to the marina and a change of crew for the next tide out early Monday morning and a spot of fishing in the estuary.
Another misty start, this was actually a wall of fog just a few minutes before, luckily it cleared very quickly!

Heading downstream through the Medway towns:

Flat calm approaching the mouth of the river:

And out where it ends!

Lots of saily boats around on the Monday, enjoying the strengthening wind which, as forecast, got too choppy to be comfortable...

So headed back in towards the famous landmark!

It did! I'm not sure of that bridge height, I'm sure one of the experienced members here will be able to recite them from memory but it must be 9' above the water.
It actually got a lot higher in places. If you have a look on Youtube for Medway floods, there's some quadcopter footage of Teston bridge completely submerged. That's a stretch of water I know extremely well (from fishing) and that is a large bridge. Probably IRO of 20' from waterline to the top? something like that?

Edit: Youtube footage

And what it normally looks like!

Excellent pictures Murv. All those yachties were probably MYC returning from West India.
My flybridge is 12ft 6" high and we have about 6" clearance on Tovil footbridge. That would make the footpatth bit of bridge about 13ft above the normal water levels.
