Has it lost one of the 4 marker posts ?

Came down to check the boat out today.
Looking out from the path above the King William Yard I swear theres only 3 left.
Maybe one of the port hard marks has gone.

Can anybody confirm ?

Not checked NTMs or Longroom etc yet

I've never looked at QHM longroom before. Full of good info. Do they also update the warnings to let you know if bouys are back in correct position or if the bridge is open again for example?
Cheers.

Should do. For a NavWarn, without an automatic expiry date, there should be another one in due course telling when it is cancelled.

How do you close the bridge ? How many read the notices to mariners or contact Longroom when entering a familiar port ?

Not sure how they close/police the bridge!! Maybe a couple of bouncers either end:rolleyes: Would be interested to know though. As I mentioned above I've never looked at navwarnings in longroom before and as plympouth sound is familiar to me I'm aware of the hazards but it would catch me off guard if a bouy had moved by 395 metres like the Draystone or the bridge was closed due to a wreakage. I will monitor the longroom more closely from now on.!!

Reading the notices to mariners is an essential part of being a seafarer. I think all of us probably neglect to do it to some extent.

Went through this morning, coming from the Sound the first post on the port side is missing, although there is a small orange bouy marking the spot it should be in. Allegedly the original post was demolished by a landing craft piloted by the marines.

Yes the warnings are cancelled as soon as it has been confirmed that the buoys or navaids are working correctly or in this instance a replacement marker buoy has been laid.

Broadcasts were made on Ch 16 VHF advising mariners to go to Ch 14 VHF regarding the closures of the Bridges at the time.

The VTS channel is Ch 14 VHF and if you ever need any advice you can also call them on 01752 836953 and speak to one of the staff there and they are manned 24/7.

Just in case anyone in the Plymouth area is fortunate to take advantage of the autumn weather (??!!??), you are advised that the Bridge Passage by Drakes Island is again closed:

Queen's Harbour Master Plymouth
LNTM No 38/15
Bridge Channel Engineering Works-Direction

PLYMOUTH LOCAL NOTICE TO MARINERS 038/15

1. This notice is a direction by the Queens Harbour Master Plymouth pursuant to the Dockyard Port of Plymouth Order 1999.

2. Completion of engineering works to replace Beacons No.2 & No.3 in The Bridge Channel has been extended due to adverse weather.

3. The works will comprise drilling and crane activities onboard anchored barges moored in The Bridge Channel. Anchors and mooring wires deployed from the barges will be marked by unlit surface marker buoys. The barges will be supported by a workboat and an anchor handling vessel. The works will also entail diving operations. Appropriate shapes will be displayed by all vessels as required by International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea.

4. Both Bridge No 3 beacon and the temporary buoy replacing Bridge No 2 beacon have been removed.

5. From 0001Z on Mon 2 Nov for the duration of the works, passage through The Bridge Channel is prohibited for all vessels not directly involved in the engineering works. Mariners are directed to keep well clear and minimise wash when navigating in the vicinity of the works.

I only found this out last week when monitoring the radio, and heard the Longroom chastising a yacht for approaching the Passage.
