The Boat Stinks....

I spilt a great deal of petrol into the bottom of the boat whilst carrying out some repairs to the fuel tank, I rinsed a lot of it away through the bung at the rear, but that horrible petrol smell lingers,..what do you use to clean bilges with??

Nah not gunk in a petroliym boat. Best thing is either sugar soap solution or epsom salts. Get rid of most smelss and leaves the bilges all spangly!

He doesn't need a computer to give him a clue....go sit on his ........err (inserting a boaty link here, to make it sound decent, and not deletable) helm

If'n he thinks you're thinking about taking the helm, he might let you take over and do all the work

two buckets of daz ad hotwater, fling in bilges, go to sea for ann hour drain annd finish off with a bit of bilgex, sparkling

I had 30 galls of petrol in mine - read on...

Dave, my petrol tank split while out at sea and I had the unenviable task of getting the stuff out when I got back. One lesson learned (among many) is that "marine" versions of any cleaning product are 10 times more expensive and frankly not worth it. Go to a super market or wholesaler, and buy a gallon of detergent. Make sure you got all the petrol out first, then slop a load of detergent and water in and swill it round, with a soft yard brush preferably. Then drain it out through the bung. Repeat 3 times. The smell will go, it did with mine!
