(well the fat bloke from the river)..... never was good with the bible...

well it's done the old microplus restored to it's former glory (whatever that was) launched yesterday after a long night making the new seating on her majesty's request! motor needed testing as it's not been run at full throttle for about 8 years!

decided on a short trip from wareham to arne beach in poole harbour. low water at 11:30 so seemed like a good time to go....

Mrs woman and small child aboard, (she's not a keen boater, so this needed to be a "nice" trip) bag of rolls and some cola from Mrs Miggins's pie shop up the high street.... and we're off. nice steady pootle down river, "what's this/that... etc.. into the harbour, planes ok, only 40hp outboard but ok. it's just good to get out there.. it's been ages!

picked up the entrance to arne bay, could have done with a chart as i couldn't remember where it was, last time was in my old parkstone bay fishing boat, and to be honest took ages, not that i didn't observe the limit of course. bit sunny yesterday, got a bit warm just sat there, necked afforementioned rolls and cola.. time to throw child into water. now this is where i need to admit things, i have never owned a life jacket/boyancy aid/rubber ring or armbands, not 'cos i think i don't need them, but 'cos i'm tight. with passengers though... small child with life jacket inflated over the side, up rides jacket, strap under nose... that bit WAS funny! bit of a panic, and hauled back in, tears etc...
decided that bouyancy aids might have been a better idea!

tides finished doing what tides do, and is now slack. time to get Mrs woman home and back to work, good run home taking a small amount of mud coming up river but with such a little boat not a problem. easy onto the trailer, quick wash off at my personal car wash, and home. all in all a good test of the engine, and nice to get out into the harbour again. better still the Woman is quite happy, and is already planning "our" next trip!!! RESULT

now, with the seed set, this may lead to me being able to spend some time/money on the proper boat. she does look sad moored up like a ghost ship!

so.... i'm afloat... at last!

I am glad you have had a good time and SWMBO is happy.

BUT I would do a risk assessment and safety gear review if i was you, should not take long, but there are certain items you really should have on board, I am sure that some people on here have stuff that may be of use that they don't need anymore, or for a small charge. Re the lifejacket, that is a classic example of what would happen to any person who is not wearing the thigh straps, can be scary if you are using it in a real life situation and slipping out of it.

Make sure you have the basics like :-

Handheld VHF
Coastal Flare Pack
Life Jackets x 6
Childs lifejacket
Radar reflector
Spare Nav bulbs
Spare fuses
Child Harness Child safety line
GPS (and spare batteries if battery powered)
15ltr waterproof container
Boat hook
Dry Bags
First Aid Kit
Charts
Liferaft
EPIRB
Survival Pack (Grab bag, sleeping bag, water holders)
Emergency water and survival food
Rescue flotation throw line
Sea Anchor
Fog horn
Sharp divers type knife
Mooring Lines
Spare ropes
Binoculars
Binocular floating strap
Tool Kit
Fire Extinguisher x 2
Fire Blanket
Bailer
Bucket
Sponge
Waterproof phone bag
Aluminium survival blanket
Jerry Can 20L
Spare Prop
Flexi Funnel
Generator
Toaster, Kettle e.t.c.

Hope this helps /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

oh gawd another happy list

at least it didn't contain sub-directories and sub-sub-directories

I was going to go for a sail but now I am going to stay safe inland, without the 'proper' gear who knows what will happen, I might even enjoy my time on the water /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Happy forgot the most important things on the list
