There's a 6 in the inshore forecast, moderate to rough, and you notice a fellow Scuttlebutter going in the opposite direction. It turns out that his engine has packed in, and that for the next two days he has to battle his way through, under sail only, some of the toughest navigational and sailing challenges that the Clyde can throw at him.

What would you do?

Make sure he has a decent life insurance policy with you as the sole beneficiary. Then sit back and enjoy thinking about your new boat.

Wait three days and send him a pm to make sure that he got home /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. It shows that you care.

[/ QUOTE ]Jings. I've just realised he's not been on the Forum since Friday the 13th. Spooky or what?

Offer him the invaluable advice that he should turn round and sail back to Glasgoe

I would be a nice gesture if you got the local coastguard chopper to pop out and drop him some F/Bentos pies , oh, and a Landrover.

………..

A similar situation arose early this season. I'd been joined for an early season cruise by a number of friends and as is often the case in Scotland, we had changed our original passage plan and were headed somewhere else - it may have been Colonsay.
This being bank holiday weekend the Scottish waters were particularly crowded and one of the other 3 boats obviously experienced some difficulty and began calling all and sundry.
We were fortunate in that numbered amongst our ships company was the Ex Coxn of the Fleetwood Lifeboat. As skipper I suggested that we should turn back and effect a rescue of this stricken vessel and fortunately for them, amidst the cacophany of protest from the crew, came the quiet but strong voice of the Ex Coxn. he then took over the controls and landed the aforementioned craft safely alongside the Pier. Whilst I know it should not be in the spirit of things to seek recompense for the inconvenience caused, it would have nevertheless been well accepted had a word of thanks or even a drink been offered. No such gesture being forthcoming I would say that in answer to the original question posed by the poster - Fuckem, let em sort their own mess out.

Ah would that that would work, however under the rules of insurable interest your plot would fail unless set up under a complex trust instrument. Far simpler to suggest it to his wife, that'll probably work.
