The award for not looking goes to....

We headed over to Mermaid Quay this afternoon with the kids and some friends with their kids, moored up quite nicely in quiet gusty winds - only to release once we have all disembarked, push chair loaded etc.. that we managed to moor up to the set of pontoons not connected to the shore !

15 mins later all was sorted and we headed over to Cadwaladers for Ice Cream !

Cheers

You should worry Stu! On one memorable occasion I was so fixated on getting through the open the lock gates at Penarth marina that I failed to notice they had been slow in lifting the bridge between the inner and the outer basins. Despite full astern, I managed to hit it with the forestay.

Well Penarth has 340 berths and Cardiff 350, so that's nearly 700 berths just for the marinas... of course they're not full. But when you add in the two yacht clubs the total number of boats must be over a thousand I'd guess. And how many never go out.... over a thousand I'd guess! It never fails to amaze how quiet the waters off Cardiff are on a sunny day.

Cheers

CBYC quote 500 morrings and then there is CYC to add on too. I think the total is likely to be somewhere around 1300

I think CYC has about 200 boats on pontoon berths and 30ish on trots. I pay £640 pa for a 10m boat. When I moved there, in 2004, it was about a third the price of Bristol and a quarter of Portishead's quote.

Cbyc for my 10m is £1200. That's mid price band. With electrics on the pontoon it's a bit more or for a longer walk a bit less.

From memory, in 2004 CBYC was 50% more expensive than CYC. At the time there were only about 4 pontoons at CBYC.
This thread has made me realise I've been sailing these waters for 10 years, still loads to learn.

Mmmmmm, its made me realise that i would have another £600 of toys if i moved to your club! Oh- and its another £250 on top of that for annual membership.

And £100 joining fee, and £2300 one off payment for the privelage of having a pontoon at CYC

Yes, that is correct. The £640 I pay includes £220 membership which I think is quite expensive but it keeps the beer prices down. When my knees finally give up I'll enjoy spending the £2300 I'll get back.
Our fees are far too complicated, the £50 bar levy and the £100 work levy have not been mentioned.
