Alistair - posing your question in that manner was bound to get the (exellent) replies it deserved.

I would imagine that a 2000 boat, well cared for should show up as in good, or possibly even showroom condition. 5yo, should be about 250-350 hours. Motors should start well and produce little smoke on start and no smoke 2 minutes later. They should sound good, and should be tested separately for odd sounds. Good response to throttle and drives in good nick. Check exhaust risers, they have a life of 3-5 years (at the outside). If outdrive, bellows have a life of 3 years. When were these items last attended to? How does the service history look for motors and drives? No dinks or bad scratches on hull. Interior clean and well prersented, no tears in fabric etc. Clean galley. No obvious signes of leakage from portholes or hatches. Covers & canopies nice with little fading and no tears. Clean gelcoat - that looks like it has been kept clean, not cleaned for inspection. But like anything else, a bad owner will give you the flip side to all these...and thats why you employed a surveyor! Engine survey as well??

I do hope it works out good for you!

Cheers
Dave

Dont want to rain on your parade but I've just had a year 2000/400hr boat surveyed. Looked a minter and sailed through hull survey no problem but engine/equipment survey discovered numerous mechanical and electrical faults plus engine oil analysis showed excess contamination. Further investigation revealed boat had not been used at all in 2004 and had not been serviced since early 2003
Always worth spending a few bob on engine/equipment survey as well as hull survey. Saved me money more than once

You know your stuff, Hopefully the surveyor will look at all the stuff you've mentioned.
The inside is minted the galley looks unused as does the head, everything is clean and tidy.
I may be wrong but i think this may have been one of Sealines Year 2000 show boats, so apart from everyone trepsing all over it, would that make a difference?

Cheers

Alistair.

Which Sealine is it? and how much are you paying?

I bought my 1999 F44 2 years ago and the survey showed no problems apart from the wrong Fire Ext. which the dealer replaced.

Boat is currently For Sale at Burton water for £169k

report

Ok, Surveyor phoned, the report is in the post to me.

Nothing much to report, a few minor points, a small piece of glasswork needing attention, small scuff on the gelcoat, nav lights don't work.....I don't want to go into too much detail on here in case the dealer is a regular viewer.
But i think its still ok, and possible a wee bit more room for negotiations possibly.
The surveyor said all in all a very tidy clean little boat.

I am going back to look over it myself this evening again.

Cheers

Alistair.
