I fell of the boat.

Landing in the the river would have been fine.

I landed in the boatyard, from about 8ft up.

I have an arm in plaster.

Start of the winter refit is delayed.

Humpf.

Urgh Ben. Very sorry to hear that. Is it a big bone smashery break or just asmall fracture that will be ok in a few weeks? Left or right arm?

Ben, really sorry to hear, but you can still type and you have not lost your sense of humour! Falling off a boat seriously could be fatal so thank everything it is (just) a broken arm... get well soon... at least it will all be OK for the new season!!

I think a lot of us have had a moment, over stretching when polishing hull, or a slippy ladder, bathing platform etc when the boat is on the hard... always catches your breath a bit..

Ooooh ouch !

Huntsman doesn’t have a guard rail..........

Sorry to hear about this but you can still start your winter maintenance with one arm.

Many years ago I broke my elbow and after two weeks doing nothing I was going nuts so decided that I would strip my old Lotus for a rebuild.

Lying on my back trying to get the gearbox loose there was a voice at the garage door that I didn’t recognise...... turned out to be the Safety Officer from work who had come to ask me about my work accident :) Actually he was quite interested in what I was doing  He made me promise him a ride when it was all finished.

Heal well and be thankful it's only an arm thats damged, it could have been much worse falling from that height.

bust mine a couple of years back along with fracturing the elbow but under different circumstances... raced my boys new years eve between two lamposts after too much 'fun juice'.... I ended up skidding along the road and didn't bounce too good.. the youngest lad won btw:D

this is what it looked like a couple of days after the argument with the pavement.. hurt like hell

Gary, was this a result of "Competitive Dad" syndrome? Law of the jungle I'm afraid, you can't hold back the progress of time, and the young uns take over!!

Sorry to hear that, Ben. I hope you get better soon. I nominate my SWMBO for the award even though this happened last year. Whilst clambering back on board having had one too many, she managed to smack her head on the flybridge overhang after which she claimed she was seeing stars in her eyes. Luckily she went to see a quack when she got back home as, 24hrs later, she was in hospital having an operation to fix a detached retina. Boating is dangerous so mind how you go!

Ow. So what happens with a detached retina? Surgery must be tricky given that the lid presumably has to keep moving over the eyeball.

Still, so long as it's not an impediment to focusing on the white goods with the other one. :D

Apparently her surgery required removing the eyeball itself which all sounded a bit too grisly for me at the time. But she is fine now with both eyes firmly focussed on anything expensive that glitters, as ever

It's not the re-attaching operation that frightens me, it's the posturing required afterwards! (Explanation available for anyone not familiar the term).

My own accident was strange and nothing to do with eyes. I was standing on a rickety chair in the boatyard (I know!) polishing the hull, when the chair went from under me. My legs shot out and I lay suspended horizontally in the air. It really did all happen in slow motion! I had time to think "this is going to hurt" and floated to the ground with a crash that brought bystanders rushing over. "Are you alright" was the general comment and after lying still for a couple of moments testing things, I got up and replied that apparently I was OK. No pain, no bruises, nothing. And no after effects. It was a really strange experience and should have resulted in at least some bruising or grazes.
