Bray Friday evening, easy drive.
Left Saturday morning, slight delay at Bray lock but arrived Cookham just after noon to find lots of space on the park. Met up with some peeps we know, Chinese Saturday night.

Curry buffet at Maliks today - £10 as much as you can eat, great value.

Left around 3pm, good run back, hardly any waiting at locks (but why does Boulters seem to take so long?). Moored up before half five and back home by half six.

Now, why cant it always be like that? Oh, nearly forgot, brilliant bloody weather too......

Agree with the weather, superb! We had a great weekend in the excellent company of Brayman and his SWMBO. Had a few hours just cruising down by the Rewind Festival, had a quick chat with rr 123 who was last seen trying to moor up by the Angel... hoping we'll see you at the ATYC?? And how much did you eat for your tenner??

Mike Gates not around, your berth empty, so SWMBO insisted on a glass of wine at the bistro. Sat watching boats moving up and down in the bright warm sunshine. Felt quite nostalgic. Even went to Windsor and saw an F33 in my old berth. Deja vu.

The wind

Dropped in to Bray yesterday. (Visiting no. 2 son and wife for his birthday.)

Mike Gates not around, your berth empty, so SWMBO insisted on a glass of wine at the bistro. Sat watching boats moving up and down in the bright warm sunshine. Felt quite nostalgic. Even went to Windsor and saw an F33 in my old berth. Deja vu.

Was also out in force on the lower reaches (Teddington area) and gave almost all the sailing clubs the opportunity for a bit of "champagne sailing" as in a decent breeze and some cracking down wind runs.

Being a considerate chap who does a fair bit of sailing I happened to be out in my motorboat (nothing fancy) and stuck hard to the starboard bank (heading up) This was very much appreciated by all the sailing folk and to be fair I did not really have anywhere else to go as they were cracking a good speed! UNTIL I reached a couple of fisherman...I say fishermen they were the pretend type naked apart from a pair of England shorts, Stella in one hand and fag in the other with lines out. Having slowed right down to avoid them they then launched in to the abuse, heard it all before but I had kids on board which I stated and they stated they could not give a **** and said they wanted to Cee U Next Tuesday.

With a couple of first timers on board this made a very awkward start to the day.

Shame really as it was a cracking day until then.

One of the best weekends of the season. Such enjoyment cruising Henley Reach at about 2 knots in the sunshine, drinking Pande's wine. Such a change to not have to aim for anywhere.

I'm not sure Rob was trying to moor at the Angel rather than cajole a drink off one of those on the terrace. The Rewind Festival looked great, and what a bonus to have the stage facing the river, and the big screens too - that's an idea for the Henley Festival. Everything should be free to boaters!

We stopped at Bray overnight on Saturday having taken the local pub landlord and his family for the run up. The only forumite we saw was No Regrets leaving the marina on Sunday morning. We pootled down to Windsor and got a good mooring to settle down for lunch and the Grand Prix, only to find that we couldn't get any digital TV reception. How to overcome this? Simple: An Irish pub.

We then took some friends and family back to Staines with us. I was astounded by the bad behaviour of one group of boaters we ended up amongst. The hire boats could be forgiven, but a couple of cruisers were very much of the "this is my bit of the world and you can sod off" mentality. We took a pleasant detour to the weir after Old Windsor and let them go their own way.

An average stop at The Thames Court (no bar staff and most of the beer was off) to meet other friends was followed by a much more pleasant visit to The Swan.

All in all, a great weekend - very much enjoyed by all who joined us.

Sadly, though, I lost my forum burgee

Missed you on the weekend with your trip down our neck of the woods. Stayed at Shepperton Square Saturday night with Two Rebels and had a great late lunch at Bluebeckers. Lovely pint or 3 of Tribute at The Kings Head served by a VERY attractive bar maid. Moved off on Sunday to drop our 15 year old dog home then back out again and anchored behind Desborough for a couple of hours as all moorings taken, absolute bliss.
