Just seen that HMS Bulwark is going to be anchored at Weymouth for the Olympics.

Now at Weymouth's charges of £20/metre per 24 hour period that's going to come to......

 £140 a night for my 22' boat ? That's what they pay me to endure exclusion zones for people sailing around in circles, right ?!

It's what nobody (or not very many people) are paying them for the privilege of using some seabed they've temporarily been given powers over.

Pete,

with respect, this is all going on while causing a major embuggerance to any cruising sailor traversing the South Coast.

While I must admit I usually plan to go to & from Studland to give Portland Race a wide berth, it would be nice to have Weymouth as an option, not having to pay megabucks and avoid exclusion zones for people who have managed to turn a hobby into a paid profession, just for a night's kip !

I know, I thought I was agreeing with you.

The point about not very many people paying them refers to the fact they've set their price so absurdly high that they've had very few takers, as revealed recently in another thread.

The point about the seabed is that people shouldn't have to pay any price, whether high or low, to use it.

'It's only for a special event over a few days'; are you sure about that ?!

Who decides it's 'special' anyway, it has a direct effect on my sailing safety, and not one of the people raking in this cash ( who probably can't tell HMS Bulwark from the Victory ) has asked me, just taken £ squillions while hospitals etc are being closed down...

A few days? My feeling (without checking) is that it's a month, two weeks for the Olympics, and two for the Paralympics. And possible a bit more for the five ring circus to arrive and depart.

Try looking at it as though it will be an exciting challenge.....

I'm not entirely sure that's how hospital patients told to go away, the elderly and the homeless will see it, as taxpayers money funds jolly nice budgets for things like huge swimming pools, exclusion zones and massive price hikes at Weymouth & running tracks; to suit a small minority who have managed to get their hobby funded by everyone else.

The real gold medals in this sorry escapade go to the contractors...
