Have you had one recently? I had one of those moments yesterday.
The one when you can see something is going to happen and just can't do anything about it.
I was stood in the cockpit and looked at the tender to see the painter had got itself behind a rowlock. As the wash from a ferry was bobbing us up and down a bit I could see the rowlock would be pulled up and out if the tender dipped in the swell.
It did and it was. The rowlock flew up and 'plop' disappeared into the depths. Of course I hadn't put a lanyard on it.
Not earth-shattering, but bloody annoying as I had to use a loop of line as a rowlock to get ashore and go and buy a new steel rowlock (plastic ones had thick shafts, won't fit) from the swindlery.
I know it was my fault, but it's always too late you realise these things.

What have you had happen recently that you couldn't control?

Talking rowlocks...

"What have you had happen recently that you couldn't control? "

Not being pedantic or nothing but this implies that you are abrogating responsibility for the loss of the row lock. This is a symptom of modern society where "things happen to you" rather than "accepting responsibility"!

You made the choice not to secure it so you are responsible for its loss, if as a result of this experience you accept responsiblity for your choices and empower the rest of your life then the rowlock loss could be a defining point in your life!

Yes you are being pedantic. I said it's my own fault.
What I'm getting at is that feeling when you realise events have taken over and you are just an observer.
I am responsible for all of my own actions, or lack of them.

I'll do it for you, Lake Sailor.

Jimi was, of course, really referring to his countrymen's tendency to blame the English for all life's ills but being one of the enlightened few has taken the stand and now accepts that it was all their own doing.

Well done, Jimi.

Aha .. you make sweeping generalisations to justify personal impotence and feed the dragon .. examine yourself and seek fo the truth! As humans beings we are becoming more and more of a "receiving" than "giving" society .. accidents happen, they are not caused ... we wish thing were better rather than accepting life is a bed of nails and working within these facts.
of course us scots had it a lot harder than you soft sassenachs which is why we're better people really ...

Well, better than you might otherwise have been, perhaps. There is still some room for improvement /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ah BoatMike, my son, you are erring in the ways of the undernourished. You need a proper diet of flattery and fattery to encourage a sense of pride in your person. Criticism of you betters will not drag them down to your level you naise to climb in self esteem before comparing yourself to such as me. I'll give you some lessons if you want .. ££75 / per pint cos sessions are usually conducted in a pub to itrduce the novitiate to the art of social acclimatisation ... something you currently sadly lack ... ya smelly auld git!
