For everyones help, last on the list of things to do for my overheating Volvo MD11c was exhaust elbow, sure enough, practically closed with black muck. Anyone got any suggestions how to unblock it, central heating solution doesn't even get close!!

don't know the unit, is is castiron ? - if so, try caustic soda - used to work for old motorbike engines.

Coca Cola?? Don't laugh but it does work with this sort of thing sometimes. God only knows what it must do to your stomach lining if you actually drink the stuff.
