Well best since Easter at least!

Funny we were saying that ourselves too yesterday whilst watching the sun go down. Apart from a very lucky two weeks bashing 'round the Solent at the end of July/early August, the most memorable weekends were Easter and the one just gone!

For those of us who have Labradors as opposed to your Greyhound of the seas.
Today was much better just a nice steady 15 knots, enough to get moving without frightening casual onlookers and a pleasant 20°C.

What a delightful w/e! After quite a lot of wind and waves mainly racing through the year (rewarding although arduous at times), three of us pottered into Newtown on Saturday afternoon and dropped the hook.

A little crowded but still quite lovely and unspoiled - couple of chores completed, a swim, bit of food and drink followed by the quietest night I've ever had on a boat.

Full english breakfast (well nearly) and then up hook we thought - oh dear, warp between keel and rudder! I imagine possibly caused while the boat was stationery aground at the bottom of the tide - no heel so I think the keel just slipped into the mud. Another swim (probably unnecessary) and it was pulled under the rudder and we pottered back in time for me to get home and do some gardening!

Only one question, why did the HM (National Trust) want to see my membership? He later went on to say neither members or non-members get charged ..... still nice chap so that's fine.

And before anyone says it - we do have a large lump of chain before the warp starts!

Well it has been a great end to the season, we managed a day anchored and our 6yr old had her first swim of the boat and was so excited helmed all the way back (about 2 miles) with that way this way but I was not allowed to touch the wheel! Have managed a couple of delightful evening sails after work and am even convinced the new boat is OK really.

So this weekend could not take the family: pre-birthday party Sat and full of colds Sunday so ripped off the behind mast reefing and so pleased I have. Thank crumbs for webbing ladders and never dropped anything except some of the tolrin bearing, must have lost 1/2 stone in perspiration though! Just need a mainsail now........Any offers?

Lovely and sunny in Argyll on Sunday; sailing in shorts; lots of mackerel for the smoker; SWMBO not needing her wet suit while exploring in her kayak ... and raining inland by all accounts. Pleasant end to the season.

Absolutely tops. I trailed my little boat to the Solent on Friday am, and just arrived home. A superb few days taking in Newtown Bay, Gosport, Lymington and back to Bucklers Hard. Today was great: 15kts of breeze and 2kts of tide heading east.

Cruising chute run 'home' today out of the solent, carried the flood tide almost all the way, fast over a sparkly sea, sunbathings and monster fry up along the way, in before sunset yay, moored up and a jug-two even-catching up with friends not seen for 3 months, came out of pub and it's blowing an autumnal half gale !
Yeehah, and very grateful indeed.

Now I can speak from experience of what is an Indian summer i guess. Fantastic month it's been and some fantastic sailing.

Yes brilliant - I'd just like to thank the Crowne Plaza NEC for the worse few nights ever experienced in any hotel anywhere and arguing the prices quoted by phone. Sorry, I just have to rant for a while. Never again - not even with a barge pole.

Glad y'all had a great saiing weekend. Well deserved after this summer :)

Yes, a wonderful weekend. The previous Saturday was also good in Christchurch and Poole Bays for a slowish sail. Like a few others I need 10 knots of wind to sail well. I have had some other good sails this year but the wind always seemed between 20 and 30 knots, not ideal with a novice crew on board. Hopefully may get one more sail in and then lift out for the winter.

... for Oct 1&2. Best weekend of the year. Gosport - Studland and back, round the back of Wight going. Nice!

Thats good going Ken. Reminds me why the arcona is on my lottery win list :)
There were a few not setting distance records, there were 120 boats at anchor in osbourne bay on Sunday. Loads of swimmers. That must be a record for October. Had to scream at 1 cretin in a RIB, it was otherwise perfect.

Were we in a different Argyll?
Cloud down to the mast-top and heavy rain both Saturday and Sunday. Barely any wind and had to motor to the pub.
Kyles of Bute.

Other side of the Kintyre peninsula.
Sunny Sunday in the Sound of Jura, watching the cloud and murk on the mainland :)
