... it really is.

After handing over some pretty hefty cheques and giving the credit cards a real bashing, we finally took posession of the 'new to us' HR 31 on Friday evening and nervously nosed out of Lymington on Saturday morning to make the trip back to her, and our, new home at Haslar.

Suddenly it all came together, the stress melted away and we were soon romping along in a stiff breeze on a beam reach - not only that but the sun was shining too! The feeling was beyond words.

Even getting whiped repeatedly in the face by wild reefing lines as I wrestled with the main just outside Portsmouth harbour felt like a pleasure! Lazy Jacks and a FB main moved up a couple of notches on the wish list but nothing could take the smile of my face by then.

You were all absolutely right, sailing your very own boat is a world away from chartering.. The words of our 9 year old will summed it up and will stay with me for a long time, 'I cant believe this is really ours, we don't have to give it back, we can come here whenever we like? Bloody brilliant!... oh sorry mummy, yeah, I meant just brilliant'

Thanks to everyone who offered early encouragement and later advice - so far it feels like one of the best decisions I've made in a long time.

Lovely post!

I remember taking delivery of our boat 3 years ago in Gosport. Dropped the previous owner off in the Hamble and had as wide a grin as yours as it dawned on me she was ours on the way home.

BTW, I think the HR31 is one of the nicest boats in the range with few compromises and a proper no-messing aft cockpit. I'll get flamed for saying this, but you need a big boat before a centre cockpit works. And the 31 has a tiller.

Enjoy!

Too right you will, Slime Ball ! I don't consider our M346 to be a big boat, but the centre cockpit is great, ie safe and cosy, especially when it is just the two of us on board. In addition, the aft cabin is very comfortable for a man with a real physique like me, particularly for horizontal folk dancing! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Congratulations Mark, yep I remember the same feeling. All I wanted to do was get her back to home berth without incident, then sat there for hours taking it all in.

Its a bit like moving house - initially it is as if you are in somebody else's property until you get all your own stuff in place, and have a few people come to visit.
