Hi all.
Thames21 has launched an exciting new project on the Non- Tidal Thames, with the support of the Environment Agency and the Waterways Trust
This new and exciting project is the first on the non-tidal Thames, and will span environmental enhancements and litter management.
The Upper Thames Project is in direct response to clear community demand for environmental and general improvements on the River Thames upstream from Teddington Lock.
The charity will work with the Environment Agency and The Waterways Trust to run a one year practical pilot with aims of building an expanding a collective of passionate individuals and groups living and working around the river, and actively engage them in hands-on environmental improvement activities in order to shape effective long term action.
Sites will include: Sunbury Lock, Desborough Island, Dorney Tow Path, Penton Hook Island, Cookham Lock, and Caversham in Reading.
The first event for this project was held at Sunbury Lock recently, with around 10 enthusiastic volunteers removing 20 bags of rubbish, 1 cone, 1 barrier, 2 garden chairs, 2 metal bars, 1 hoover, 1 oil tub, 1 knife, 1 grapple, and a few other exciting unidentifiable items.
