Anyone else having a problem? I try and register for 24 free hours and the bloody thing takes me to a checkout and asks for a fiver. I've tried adjusting my departure time to 16hrs after arrival and it still wants my money.

Which mooring site? I believe (but could be wrong) that some charge straight away, whilst at others there's a 24hr free stay period before charges kick in

You're correct - there's a certain amount of muddle / confusion because the ownership of sites is split between EA and a whole multitude of riparian landowners - who can do whatever they like.
Even EA sites have variants between "lock moorings" which are chargeable on day/ evening 1 and EA 'sites which are near locks' (for example East Street moorings in Oxford) and some others which defy definition...

The easiest way is to look at TVM's excellent site (not the pirated one) which has made an excellent start. If you're not web enabled / practicable on the boat - then do some quick research before you set out.

If you don't require a 'posh mooring' with a straight bank and bollards - then there are lots....

As I don't have one of these new fangled smart phone thingys. I tried at Hampton Court when we were up last month, only to make 3 phone calls to the number on the sign to be cut off every time. So I gave up.

I wanna know where the cameras are at the ones just below Wargrave......couldn't find 'em anywhere!

Hampton Court is not Thames Visitor moorings, it is where2moor (which uses parkonomy) , don't rate them at all. Book for 24hrs, then try and take the "Extend" option on their site, happy to pay, but no, won't let you. The support told me there site doesn't support extending.

So if you go to a where2moor site you need to decide upfront before booking your first 24hrs, if you're going to stay longer.

This is what they replied when I asked why the "extend" button, on their site wouldn't let me extend my stay.

Hi redacted,

Mooring cannot be extended on our site, Mooring sessions should have the duration needed on the first session made because the system can not understand that you are not returning but extending.

NSL (Goring). My phone wouldn't have it, NSL a pain. Fortunately, my wife's pho e worked.
We've passed a lot of boats on these newly controlled moorings that are unlicensed and have been there since last year, which begs the question "is this an effective way to control overstaying liveaboards or just another tax on the legitimate boater who already contributes?"

TVM will not keep Overstayers and non Payers away from these Moorings , However , the Signage and Palaver puts Boaters off.this setup will add to the Coffers of TVM and be of no Benefit whatsoever the Bona Fide River users. it is also another Excuse to reduce Lock Staff.

EA 24 Hour Visitors Moorings are Free for the first 24 hours. Moorings at lock sites are not.

Moorings at actual lock sites - eg Hurley Lock Island, Days Lock, Cookham, Boveney, Abingdon weir pool etc are chargeable per night with no free night.

So, as an example, if you moor below the lock at Goring on the Visitor moorings below the bridge the first night is free. However, if you moor at the head of the lock (costs extra 'cos leccy available) or just below on the tail there is no free night.

There is clear evidence from the monitored trial moorings between Egham and Teddington that the TVM scheme has been very successful in getting rid of overstayers and freeing up the moorings for legitimate boaters. During a week down river in early July we were able to moor wherever we wanted.

As this is a trial it is not earning much money for anybody, particularly as the first 24 hours is free anyway. However, I can assure you that the scheme is potentially a win win situation for everyone.

Not sure I can get any head round why you think this is a threat to lock keepers?

Lock Keepers would collect for Days 2 and 3 on the 24 Hour Moorings at or adjacent to Locks ,they will not do so with this Trial (hopefully) System.

Not true. Lockies that do walk the moorings and collect do so within their duty hours which means the lock will likely be on self service.
Also, not all of them do so which means no money is collected at all.

Far from costing the EA, this scheme should result in positive income once rolled out along the river. Many boaters are now using the scheme even where it is not currently being monitored on the ground.

Unfortunately, the EA are taking far too long to issue the tender for the supply of a riverwide service.

If "(hopefully)" means you hope it fails, I sincerely hope you are wrong. The scheme has been backed by all boating user groups.

TVM are controlling the EA mooring at Hurst Park. When we passed 2 weeks ago a Slumboat was on it. I'd be interested to know if it's still there.

So ,what happens when Hardened Overstayers take note of The Trotman method of Mooring abuse and decide to defy the TVM notices.who is going to move them on?

Talking to a few people down that way the general consensus is just to ignore it.
