I'm hoping to pick the brains of those who cruise the Thames/North Kent Coast:

Planning to sail round from the Medway this weekend and park-up off one of the local beaches for lunch/swim/dogwalk.

Does anyone have any tops tips for a good destination or places/obstructions to avoid? We are 27 foot and draw 4' 9".

Thanks.

You could go into the Ray off Westcliff/Chalkwell for a few hours either side of low water. There are buoys to pick up or good anchoring - go about 2 miles west of Southend pier Go ashore by dinghy on to the hard sand banks (no mud) and picnic, BBQ, game of cricket. Good swimming. Low water is about 1100 on Saturday so you'll be able to walk about until 1400ish. If it's nice there will plenty of other boats out there (partic on Sunday) so get there early for a buoy unless you want to anchor.

Hi Moodysabre,

Thanks for this, I hadn't thought of the essex side, I was thinking more of the north kent side. I will keep this one up my sleeve for another weekend.

Cheers,
D.
