Thames Slipways

Earlier in the year I was looking for a Hotel with moorings and a slipway nearby. Thanks to help from the forum I booked in at the Shillingford Bridge hotel for a family do this weekend. I had intended to launch at Benson Cruisers, however when I rung them to confirm this morning they told me the slipway was blocked. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

So now I need some help, I have 3 expensive rooms booked for a long weekend and no way of getting the boat in the water. I have had a look at boatlaunch and it suggests a public slip at Wallingford or Maidline Cruisers. Does any one have any knowledge of these slips ?

Of course it could all be academic if the river is in full flood and we might need a tender to get to our bedrooms in the hotel !

You could try Byron's private slip if it's not underwater.

Not exactly next door, but in the right area of the Thames.

Just take a look at the coverage of Abingdon on the tv...and its getting worse before it gets better.

There is a slipway at the end of my lane but I wouldn't reccomend using it right now. I can store your trailer for you. From here to the Shillingford Bridge Hotel is a fair way and through Benson Lock. In these conditions it isn't advisable among other things I suspect the river at Wallingford bridge will be 3' higher than downstream of it and you will have to hit that 3' overfall at speed to negotiate the arch.
Best you just stay at the hotel and forget the boating part. No fears there they are waaay above even the 1947 levels.

Thanks for all the advice, having had a look at the news I dont think we will be taking the boat (I might put the inflatable in the boot just in case /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif )

Tell your wife to take a nice cocktail dress. Silly bridge has a dinner dance on saturdays and sometimes they can be quite good if you get in with the right crowd /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
