And managed to lose it in central London , impressive.

Line snapped, cleat pulled out, who knows it could be a multitude of things. It says quite clearly it was an old boat the strain of such a long tow may have been the final straw for the old gal. Maybe they dropped the tow after getting something around their own Prop.

Cleats frequently detach when bolts simply pull through decking ,sometimes bringing the backing pad with them.
Other problem is that as ancient houseboats are moved from one boatyard to another, all the mud and gunge in the seams which are preventing water getting inside hull, washes out with interesting results.
Most small towage outfits will not go near these sorts of jobs with a ............bargepole. Many tows are curiously done at night.
One instance a while ago where the tow sank and was not discovered until months later during hydrographic survey.
No one appeared to know anything about it,including the boatyard that evicted the offending craft .
It is normally cash up fronty matey before any lines are attached and if it starts to sink (usually just after departing boatyard). Tough.
