Good survey, contrary to popular opinion it appears theres not many Narrowboats on the river /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sadly, I suspect its more the case that there are few narrow boaters on the forum /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Yes, I noticed and Welcome!!

I see from your website you are currently on the Kennet and Avon but intending to become long term cruisers this month. Does that mean you might become a Gold Licence holder in the near future?

Not this year or next - maybe 2010. Too many canals to visit first

As an aside, I think the "Gold License" is bl**dy good value.

I lived in Reading for a couple of years and had a 20' viking on the Kennet, to license it for the Thames was about £140-£150, to license it for every single inland waterway was just over £300.

Leaving aside the actual value (why does it cost twice as much as my car, what do i get for that) and just looking at the relative value, the Gold was a bargain!

I agree, as a BW customer the Gold is excellent value.

BUT as a EA customer It is absolute rubbish , costing roughly double my EA fee, whereas if I was based on BW waters it would only be about 25% more.

That really annoys me and grossly unfair, it should be a level playing field, bearing in mind that one's use of the "other" waters in any one year is likely to be small(er).

I now buy an Explorer license if I want to cruise BW, at less than half the cost for what I use, but I would really prefer something more practicable.

I save my vitriolic remarks for the pikey liveaboards>

Just dipping my toes in an alien forum, but this does smack of plain snobbery or even 'racism'.
No I'm not PC really.
No doubt Shane Acton (Shrimpy) could have been described similarly from time to time.
