Thames based events

Hi we are planning our time off this year and would like any tips people have on Thames events.
we have mainly done the lower Thames and are aware of
Rock the moor , rewind,henly reggata/ festival but what smaller family-friendly events are we missing especially upstream of reading .

Bray cruiser club have around 20 events during the year, some cruises up and down river, some land based events, and plenty of club nights!

'Family fun day' at Windsor last year included line throwing comp, Swan sanctuary trip, Tender economy challenge, treasure hunt and plenty more. I'm scratching my head to make it even more fun this year!

Thanks No Regrets I must admit I have thought about joining a club but with two children 6 and 2 we were waiting until they were a bit older and didn't need as much supervision so we could relax and socialise with other people.

Clubs, all clubs, are desperate for new members with children.

Absolutely spot on.
Most clubs are in slow decline and some club members appear have a rather unfortunate anti child attitude, the club regarded as some refuge from the world,where small people should not be allowed disturb the decline into their dotage..
The only sustainable source of new blood is going to be those with kids and probably not much money either.
Still continues to puzzle me how the older (and undoubtedly more prosperous ) section of our club go apoplectic if you dare to suggest some culling of all the discounts they get simply due to being old.
Far better to give any available concessions to young people with kids and a monsterous mortgage, who are struggling to keep some small boat afloat.

'Desperate' is a bit pessimistic, but we recognise the need for new members, and apparently many years ago we used to enjoy members with children, so it's never going to be an issue with any Bray event.

We have Dogs, for Gods sake, and some of those have behavioural issues, so Children are more than welcome. Family membership is a no-cost option, and our doors are open to anybody who wishes to promote good quality boating, with a modicum of tradition, and heaps of fun thrown in for good measure.
