Th Light vessel bell

Hi all
just thought that you might like to see our latest light vessel bell. It is about a meter high and made of bronze. The Whitechaple foundry has been going for the same sort of time as Trinity House so good to use a local firm.

Do we still have light vessels with bells? All the light vessels round our way have gone & the sound signals are under threat too.

I remember the Goodwin light ships.
A light float with a racoon just isn't the same. I think they still have bells though. lots of bouy's do.

Did they preserve any of them as museum piece?

There are usually 2 or 3 on TH moorings in the river outside Shotley marina opposite Harwich, awaiting refit in the TH yard at Harwich.

They are all unmanned now so look a bit funny, sort of a ship converted to a float

No, silly.

It's there to maintain the snake-free status of the light. Works, too. A snake has never been found on one. The occasional eel, but never a snake.
