Hello this question won't make sense unless you are familiar with flame failure devices.
I have a Plastimo 2 burner and grill, it stopped working and I have dismantled it and unblocked the jets, no problemo.

However, I am trying to test the grill thermocouple, the flame failure device, because the grill would never stay on last summer.
I have dismantled it and cleaned it, and applied a gas blowlamp to the little sensor probe which the grill flame would normally heat up. While heating up the probe, I watched the other end of the thin copper thermocouple tube, to see what it did. It did nothing, but my question is, what is it MEANT to do? Does the little thingy extend to depress the valve and allow gas to flow? Or what am I looking for? Thanks if someone knows what to look for to confirm if the thermocouple is working or not. cheers Jerry

edited to add I have found online a good source of spares for them, Neptune spares in Torquay, helpful guy on the phone. However I don't know if I need any!

By heating the tip of the thermocouple it generates a very small current of electricity at the other end, as you press in the tap it compresses a sprung valve into the open position against an electromagnet which is activated with this current. and holds the valve open, if the flame goes out or gets to low the heat dissipates and the electromagnet lets go of the valve which springs shut.

You push and hold the plunger of the valve when lighting. It is then held by electro-magnetism, yes there is enough.. The grill in my plastimo tends to block in the critical hole that plays on the thermocouple for some reason. Next time it happens I'll probably try to modify it.
