testing outboard drive while installed, in a marina?

Hi folks, I've been having a few issues with **** in the fuel system of my Honda bf6b 6hp 2004 outboard which have manifested themselves as poor running under load, and have yanked the outboard out and stripped down the fuel system to clean it out. Having accomplished this I've run it up in a bin full of water -this is big enough to get cooling water for the motor but not big enough to get into gear and give it some load. Satisfied that the fuel system is now clean, I'd like to put the motor under load without leaving the marina, as I don't want a repeat episode of me floundering about with no drive... could I keep it tied off to the marina and engage reverse safely, or am I running the risk of damaging something else (cleats, marina, pride!)? Or any other suggestions? Thanks

No problem. Just make sure your lines are tight enough so the boat does not hit anything when you put it in gear. No danger of doing any damage. You can run at full throttle in either gear if you wish.

I would change the mariner if it could not stand up to 6hp. mount it on your dinghy and either put the bow against something solid or lash alongside.

Thats how I test my 30 hp outboard. If the marina can't take this what wll happen when it gets very windy? A mobo with 100's of hp is another matter. Also a good idea to slowly build up power to allow the boat to settle down and for other boats to move to the water flow.
