tenderness

I know that tenderness is one of the joys of relationship, but how much should there be in my 26ft folksong folk boat is my question? The folk boat I have was build in the 1970's fiberglass hull with a fiberglass encapsulated keel, which is filled with concrete. I have not sailed on other folkboats so I am not familiar with the angle of heal in which they stiffen up when sailing to windward. With my folksong boat she seams to only stiffen at about 30-40 degrees. I was wondering if this was due to the concrete ballast and there not being the majority of the weight at the bottom of the keel. If there are any other reader's with experience of folksong boats with concrete encapsulated keels and general stiffness of folk boats Iwould love to hear your experience and views.

Recognise the symptoms if not the actual boat! With a narrow beam, the turning moment created by the CoG and centre of resistance (might have terms incorrect but should get the gist of it) can not increase rapidly until the boat is well heeled which makes her tender. With wide beam, the centre moves out quite rapidly which allows her to carry her sail better but her ultimate stability is impaired. The Contessa web site has lots of mathematical stuff and better explanation than mine..........
