Has anyone got suggestions for a reasonable tender, needs to fold up as small as possible, yet I would still like to be able to put a small outboard on (again any suggesitons??)

Also not looking to spend too much!!

Thanks

Charlie

Yes, definately a Zodiac 230 with an LVM inflator, this will blow it up fully in less than 1.5minutes and suck it down again just as quick, folds very neatly into a small bag /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif AND in fact I think I may have a pic of you on one /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you want one that folds up really small then consider the round tail models, like the Wetline 230 RT. Its 2.3m long with a reasonable capacity (2 adults, 2 children), only weighs 13 kg so easy to manhandle, and will take a 2 or 3 hp outboard. Downsides are that its less stable with one person in 'cos the outboard is further back, and you also have to store the outboard bracket seperately. Costs about £400.

smallest fold = round inflated tail rather than a wooden transom.

cheap = secondhand avon

but these will be wetter than a larger boat (inevitable as they have smaller tubes)

outboard wise, just had the compass brochure through and they have a Mariner 2.5 hp for £300, which seems a good price. Not sure what the postage is though.

I've had a Bombard (the poor man's Zodiac) for over 10 years now and it's still going strong . It's got a slated bottom so rolls up. It planes with a Tohatsu 3.3hp. My advice is not to go for the smallest one. Usually when going ashore I've got picnic boxes and parasols and all sorts of junk as well as the crew. The green LVR is the only pump to buy.

Wetline 240 is what you want.

Slatted floor and light as a feather. On offer from purplemarine £299
Put a Mercury 2.5 on it for another £299 and jobs a good un.
I have the above set up and its great.

Thanks all for your suggestions/recommendations!! I've been busy looking at prices on the internet and it would seem that around 6-700 should get a reasonable setup!

With regard to the engine, do these have to be stored vertically or can they be stored horizontally? Also I assume being 2 stroke the oil gets added/mixed in with the fuel in the tank?

store 2 stroke any old way - just turn off petrol and make sure tank is shut tight!

many recomend that you always mix any petrol that comes aboard straight away so that you know if it's aboard it's premix - if you see what I mean! most are 100:1 now so the oil lasts a long time.

If I was you I would be making Pete an offer on his set up; that way he can tell L that he was helping you out as he returns from the shops with the T9.8 and 2.8m airdeck he just knows he needs to tow all those toys........... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I've stored my Tohatsu horizontally for a decade and no problems. As you probably already know, switch off the fuel and let the engine run on until the carb is drained to eliminate any fuel drips.

You can also get small 4 stroke outboards, and these do need to be stored more carefully to stop the oil draining out. There's pros and cons either way. There was a post recently and from memory most people, myself included, reckoned for a very small tender o/b a 2 stroke was probably the way to go.

Well, I have a Honda 2.5 4 stroke and it's simplicity itself to use. No mixing, just plain old unleaded. It can be stored upright or on one side. The correct side is marked and has built-in rests. I put my engine on a Wetline 230 to which I have recently attached Weaver pads.
