I have just found a GRP tender floating on the tide in the River Tamar.

If it is yours please PM me with a description and I'll let you know where it is tied up.

It had oars onboard so I guess someone might still be sailing and come back to an empty buoy, so if you happen to sail passed some very annoyed people stuck on their boat - it's not been nicked, honest:)

I've never found a boat before so who else should I inform?

Ross

The oars were removed and neatly stowed beneath the seat, ie someone had left the tender on a mooring or tied up somewhere. Good point though I hadn't considered that.

RossD,

I'd still suggest contacting the Harbour office ( may be poor timing on a Saturday afternoon ) - or is there a club sticker or initials ? Coming back to find ones' tender gone can be a serious pain, especially if no inflatable on board...

If there's any clue as to the club they're probably the best bet now.

Very neighbourly of you, well done!

On the basis of no evidence at all, I'm assuming a GRP tender sounds more like the kind of tender that someone with a floating mooring would use, up river near the bridge perhaps?

Please acwept a British Standard Handful of 'brownie points' for your actions and this post... ;)

Thanks you.

No Brownie points for the owner who collected it this afternoon while I wasn't there with not so much as a thank you note.:( Particularly irratating as I'd had to bail it out in the pouring rain, and made a load of phone calls to try and find who owned it. Perhaps I should have claimed salvage:D

Ross D,

there's 1 git for every 3 decent types, but you did the right thing, that's about all that matters..! :)

Tenders

Here on Swan River we can leave a tender on the beach. You then have a long chain and padlock to make sure it remains there. I have "found" a few dinghies washed up on the shore. I just drag the dinghy up above high tide line and leave it there for a day or 2. I then advise water police. If it is still there after few days I will chain and lock it up. Effectively mine but not removed. Anyway one time I found a very abusive note on the dinghy accusing me a stealing it. I just removed the chain and left it to them. No you don't get thanks. olewill

Could you make sure Brixham Coastguard are aware please - 01803 882 704

Anyone finding tenders, etc, please let your local MRCC know straight away - firstly there's the obvious possible person-in-water issue, but also all stations maintain a lost and found log as we're often the first point of contact for people reporting it missing.

Cheers.

Perhaps there is some merit in marking a tender with a mobile number as well as boat name. Think we'll do ours.

I marked our mooring buoy with our mobile phone number. It went walkabout when the shackle (el-cheapo I found out afterwards) decided to rust through.

Mooring is near Mylor, and the buoy was found at St.Mawes. A phone call from the finder - hand-over at St.Mawes, with a bottle of wine for him.

Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
