We're currently in the process of trying to choose a small rib for our 2007 Phantom 40. Its most likely we'll fit a passerelle -with probably up to 300kgs lifting capacity, however the big question at the moment is which rib?

The idea of this rib is to replace a 4.5m Ribtec with a 55hp we currently use for general watersports skiing, wakeboarding etc....however so far we're being told the only option for these sorts of activities is a small jet rib. Because of our size the Williams 285 would fit but is a bit on the heavy side and expensive! The lighter Avon 320 is better but we think too big for our boat.....start to see the dilemma??

Has anyone had any experience with this problem?

Also any feed back on 2.8 to 3.0m ribs with outboards (10 to 30 hp) that would be lighter than a jet rib and may do the job, would be most welcome.

I would have though a nice new avon 320 type and size rib with a four stroke 15/25 hp mariner would be a good bet, from your photo of the p40 your platform dos not look long enough so some stainless chocks overhanging the platform may be req.

A good quality crane if your only uk boating or if you want med type then a passarelle would be a good bet but dont buy a cheap one as they bend, have electrical and hydraulic pack problems.
Buy a cooney /simpson one, whittall were bought out by cooney a while back and as far as I know still make the whittall type design thats bomb proof with american hydraulics that work properly, they made all the sealine ones at one time also the cranes as well, bear in mind hanging a great lump on the back will have an effect on your performance and handling.
If I remember right from your previous posts you have the smaller engine option so weight is most important when choosing all the new kit, hope this helps.

I've recently purchased a Plastimo 2.7m rim and the Mercury / Mariner 9.9HP 4 stroke recently reviewed in MBM.

Very pleased with it and it really flys! The engine lives up to its review and is very quiet.

It's slung on davits on the back of my boat. It's not too heavy to manhandle but enough capacity for 6 (friendly) adults (+dog). /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I've some pics if you're interested.

Have a look at Ribeye with the Yahaha outboard.
We have the 330 with centre console and 20HP motor with electric trim. takes a few seconds to get on the plane, but then WOW!!.
I think it is also available in 3m, but not sure if centre console is option.

We have a Brig 300 Sport with a centre console and a 15hp 2 stroke. The hull will take up to a 20hp, but we pull the kids on a ring and SWMBO wakeboards behind with 15hp. All up weight is less than 100kg and the build quality seems very good.
