In all my years sailing the channel I have never been to Tenby. What berthing, moorings etc are there for a mono with 1.8m draught?

Tenby has visitor swinging moorings to the far right of the mooring field (yellow and red) in deep water, you have to loop your own line through, or you can dry out against the wall. There are really nice rubber strakes either side of the ladders so you can lean against those and get on and off the boat easily.

Staying in the harbour against the wall cost me £10 per night, not sure if there is a charge for the moorings but the harbour master has never charged me when I've told him that we're on a mooring. In the harbour master's building there are showers, washing facilities, TV room, a kitchen with tea and coffee supplies, and a dining area which is all available to visitors. There is also shore power. it's a lovely place to sail to! Drying out is nice and easy there, we did it to get out of some weather and even with a decent breeze and swell outside it was calm inside.

Re the visitors buoys 'red and yellow'. Is that some red - some yellow, or 'red and yellow' ?

Are all the buoys out there visitors or are some local fishing. I did mean to ask last time we were there - but we anchored and did not go ashore. Its good to be clear as to what is what !

The time before at Tenby we were late on the tide - so just dried out on the beach about 100' right of the slipway.

Nice place to use for hop to Milford. Good anchorage at Caldey Island as well.

i think theres 4 red closer in, and 4 yellow closer out all to the north of the majority of the swinging moorings which are all private and belong to fishing/caldey passenger boats

Thanks - that helps. I like to know these things in advance - it all helps when flapping around. Using Tenby coming back up channel one needs to get away at LW.

Not at all! The tides so weak in Carmarthen bay that I normally leave Tenby a bit after HW and round worms head before LW giving a full flood tide to shoot you up to wherever you're going. We usually have up to a knot against us but rarely more, and it's usually down wind so thats no great hinderance.

Yes - thinking about it, I would have said the same for going down channel - little tide in Camarthen bay. Works the same either way - brain cells wearing out - gradually I suppose !

absolutely, as long as your round worms head before the flood you're all good, we got stuck just off worms head for a few hours once but even then made it to Tenby before HW :)
