Ten things I miss about living on land

Prompted by a discussion about the awful prospect of becoming land based again while on another boat anchored near me, I thought it may be a good exercise to write down an extensive list of things I miss about living in a centrally heated flat in London (or anywhere else in the world). So here goes:

Nope, a local taxi is cheaper, by far. And you get to meet the locals while you're about it.

Can you get curry delivered if you live on a boat?
Better than that, him and her that live on s/v Cape (aka Ariadne on the forum), cook a mean curry. Invite yourself around for dinner; which means you don't have to worry about the mess or dishes. And it's cheaper than the local curry den.

Nice! Home cooked curry is the best!

Mine is not as good as from the curry house though. Just not quite getting it.

See your point, but I could also use my Smart to explore the hinterland without having to join a car-club and have the total flexibility as it's MY Smart. It would also come in handy to run to the airport which is usually not close to the harbour - I think I could even foresee it to be an income-generating item as a semi-taxi for other cruisers.

Damn, why is my catamaran so small??

I'll take that as a complement - but from now on it's going to cost you a bottle of drinkable rum - not that cheap drain cleaner you normally buy!
 
1. Cold cool running water, as much as is needed any time of the day or night.
2. Hot running fresh water for the bath.
3. No barking dogs heard in a house
4. A letter box for delivery of goodies delivered to the door.
5. An address for such things as a new bank card etc.
6. A local library connected to all national libraries to get any book or most current magazines ever published (for free).
7. No hassle from officials about 182 days residancy and importing ones car after 181 days.
8. The feel good factor that the house is appreciating at 5% a year and not depreciating at 10% a year like a boat
9. I bet I can sell my house quicker and more profitable than a boat.
10. I can rent out part or all of my house without it being coded and on three or more year leases for less hassle than hiring out a boat for a week.
11. Bonus points ... I can walk out my front door and lie in the garden without looking around for sharks.
12. Another bonus point. I can sleep at night without being eaten alive by bugs and mossys.

OK I agree that most of the advantages are about money. And yes life is not about money it is about living to the full. Despite the above. I would still rather live on a boat and spend my evenings sitting under a palm tree exhausted from too much sex.
 
We have recently sold our Yacht. So I speak with conviction
1. The HUGE Fridge and Freezer is well stocked Not a poky little 12v thing
2 The property is in the same place all the time and is warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
3 I can drive to a huge selection of supermarkets and they ALWAYS have all the items that we need
4 There is gallons of hot and cold water on tap ALL the time
5 I can shower as often as I like and shmbo can soak in luxery in the bath as often as she wants.
6 All the TV channels all the time
7 Wi-Fi all the time
8 No having to go into a CHANDELRY ever again and get ripped off. I call into the DIY shop and everything I need is there.
9 The bank manager is pleased to see me and cash is available to indulge us and not the depreciating Yacht
10 No worry about anchor drag when a severe storm erupts

I can go on and on but I think you will get the drift

Yes-certainly in Chichester and Gosport.

I had a chinese delivered to the boat a couple of times in Southampton.

(Actually, not to the boat itself unfortunately. I had to go up the pontoons and meet the driver in the yard. On the phone they weren't very sure about delivering to a non-residential address and having to drive right into the site, so I gave the driver a good tip to encourage them in future - and kept the menu for that particular takeaway among the pilot books and tidal atlases!)
