Despite having deserted the Thames for the European waterways, I still have my mooring at delightful Purley on Thames which will be unoccupied this summer. Plenty of depth and suitable for boats up to around 37ft LOA. So if anyone needs space to park a boat for the season at very reasonable cost (by Thames standards) or just fancies a temporary change of location, PM me for further details.

No, no - not THAT Purley (that Purley has no river; just wall to wall traffic). His Purley is alleged to be rather posh with helicopter landing over the owner's swimming pool. Fantastic control with less than ten foot clearance on one side....

The Helipad you're thinking of is on The Warren in Caversham. God only knows how he gets in or out with any kind of wind? Purley gardens is further up on the left (just past the huge Brunel GWR wall).

I often wondered /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

And it's a Robinson R22 too, lethal at the best of times /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Goodness knows how he gets that helicopter down into such a tight space. I have never seen him land it there, but I have seen it take off a few times.

I think he sometimes brings it down in a field a bit further upriver, next to the last house on the right as you go upstream. I believe the owner of the house has his own helicopter as well as a boat in the boathouse. It looks like a Haines, but I cannot remember the name.

Anyway, Purley is a pretty good place for a mooring with great access to a really attractive part of the river upstream from there.

Purley gardens marina is so quiet that you never get them.
We usually try 01189 428116 at 10 in the mornings - but never at weekends. They are often out playing with their boats, so we just keep trying.
